Students - How job matching and match scores work

Every live job is shown to every student — your match score ranks the list, it never hides jobs from you.

How the score is built

Your score starts as Category 50% + Employment type 25% + Location 25%, then it is reduced if the listing's requirements — skills, systems or licences — are not met.

• Category: exact match 100, related 60, none 0.
• Employment type: exact 100, related 50, none 0.
• Location: within 10 km 100, within 20 km 75, within 40 km 50, further 0, remote 50.

Scores fall into three bands: Strong is 70+, Partial is 40–69 and Weak is below 40.

Why your score might be capped

If you have not completed the career assessment, you cannot score above 40, because the category factor scores 0 without it. Everything else can be perfect and the total still sits at the cap.

How to improve your matches

• Complete the career assessment so your category can match.
• Round out your profile so employers can see and match you.
• Add your location, since distance counts for a quarter of the score.

Employers also see matched students ranked the same way, and their candidate lists hide students scoring below 40 unless they widen their search. That makes a higher score and a visible, complete profile worth the effort.
